The use of diecasting for structural applications has now established itself for some years and in more recent times, also thanks to the availability of new "giga-presses", it is allowing the construction of entire parts of chassis structures of cars. But it is not only the size or weight that characterizes these castings, but rather the characteristics they must possess, which make the construction of structural castings decidedly challenging. In fact, they must guarantee very high mechanical characteristics in terms of resistance to fracture and elongation, which in many cases involves the need to be heat treated with a T5 or T6 treatment, and almost always they must also be weldable to other components, perhaps extruded or stamped. The Italian Association of Metallurgy and its Die Casting Study Center therefore organized two Study Days on this important topic on June 14 at the IDRA in Travagliato (BS) and June 24 at the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia. Our Sales Manager Flavio Cecchetto will present a paper entitled "Importance of lubrication-refrigeration and its application" with the aim of providing the technical information necessary to address the specificity of these castings with regard to the lubrication of the molds. At the end of the first day it will be possible to visit the IDRA plant and preview a 9000 Tons press.
